Course Information

We provide the Cairns Boat Licence Training via a combination of Online Delivery and a Face to Face (Classroom) Theory Examination/Test.  Once you have completed your Online Theory component (Free) you can contact us to register for your Classroom Theory and Prac exam.

Note: While the theory training is delivered online, you are then required to attend a classroom theory Examination/Test (45minutes) and Practical Assessment within 3 months in order to gain your certificate of competency.

Theory Assessment

You must first register and complete your Theory training component by registering here. Online Theory Training is Free and must be completed prior to practical boat or jet ski training.

Once completed, you will make booking with us for your Classroom Theory Exam. As per MSQ regulations the pass mark for the 50 multiple choice questions is 100%.

If any of the questions are answered incorrectly on the day you will need to undergo further training on those questions.

You will be required to re do questions you answered incorrectly.

If unsuccessful the second time the student is deemed “not yet competent” and will be required to come back to us for further training and reassessment on another day at a fee of $100.00

On successful completion of the theory assessment you will be able to attend the practical training and assessment.

Once you have been trained in the practical elements you will be assessed on these elements. If you are deemed not yet competent you will be required to come back to us for further training and assessment on another day at a fee of $100.00.

Some of the activities you should practice for both the PWC(JetSki) and Boat are:

  • Man overboard drill
  • Safely approach a floating object
  • Port and starboard turn on and off the plane
  • Figure 8 manoeuvre on and off the plane
  • Berthing and unberthing  
  • General navigation and control of the Boat/PWC
  • Operate at 6 knots or less

On successful completion of all assessments you will be deemed competent and awarded a certificate of competency.

You will be required to take the certificate of competency to the Department of Transport (within 6 months) to obtain your licence.
